Sweet Show at Ella Lounge and @thezog

One of my favorite things in the city to do is go to this lil comedy show in the East Village on Tuesday nights.  It's at 9pm every Tuesday night and you have to get there at like 8:30pm.  This comedian Seth Herzog (who apparently is on or writes for Jimmy Fallon and is on some VH1 stuff) has been hosting this comedy night for like 7 years.  He brings out comedians from all over that are in the city, writing staff of comedy shows and his random entertaining celebrity friends!

The show is Seth and a "host" which last week was Justin Long, previously was a dude from another primetime show, and time before that I attended was the cutee fiance from the Hangover.

Seth and the host stay on stage for the whole show.  The host will welcome Seth, he will dance, do some chatting, then bring out 3 or 4 comedians...of course, some better than others.  I think there were 4 last week, one of which, well the first girl I'm seen perform there, who is a writer for David Letterman, named Jenna.

It is just the most fun time to go there and laugh.  Even if they aren't good or if they're un-necessarily vulgar, it is just so good to laugh in New York City.   because at least where I work, people are pretty serious most the time and I have to make myself laugh or depend on my facebook friends to do that most of the time.

Seth's mom is usually the last part of the show every week.  She is not a comedian, she is just a 60-something (i'm guessing) lady who gets up there and has fun.  She just says whatever she is thinking or wants to say.  It's like you're sitting in their living room, except Seth is just showing us how funny she is.  The first time I went she was confessing (remember how old - like 60-something) how many blow-jobs she had given his dad.  it was just silly b/c he was asking and she was saying, then i think he wished they hadn't asked.  And the host of the evening gets in with it as well.  his mom, named Kera, she is always there before and after the show chatting with folks.  She does some sort of psych classes at NYU, so she says this is just the time where she can get up there and just say anything.  this freedom at her age, you can tell she looks good in it.  I mean just imagine, to get up in front of 70-some strangers and say whatever you want about how you are and who you are.  and yes, the point is for people to laughd, but it's just there it is.  another time she told a story about how excited she was to discover the Cosco (in the same center as the harlem target I go to).  She was so giddy about discovering the Costco - making it really funny. she is just a sweetheart.  and then afterwards, one time, she was at the same bus stop with us - and got on the m15 together to ride into the nyc night (aka up 1st avenue)

The show is at Ella lounge, which if you check out the site - www.ellalounge.com you can see how it's this awesome 20's 30's feel.  the space is just fabulous.  Then for the comedy show, it's down the stairs in this little itty bitty basement with 4 rows of chairs, 4 on each side, 2 half-booths then small standing room and the bar in the back.  I mean it is TINY.  it's just like this special little funny pocket in new york city.

on tuesday since justin long was hosting (remember him, the love interest in the New Girl and he's been in a ton of movies and oh ya, he is the apple commercial guy) I really wanted to go.  I ditched my brother at the ice skating rink. He was skating in the rain.  I was just standing there.  It was silly.

i went by myself on Tuesday for the first time.
In true form, no one spoke to me.  and I didn't speak to anyone.
it makes me giggle.  i mean, you know, i'm a nice person, but I am a shy person.  it was all I could do to not get my magazine out of my purse and read before the show began.  (we know I never said i'm normal)

oooooh but the other awesome part of these tuesday nights and this place.  they have half-off drinks before the show at 9pm.  and their drinks are AHMAZING!  I don't know how you call them, but the drinks are prohibition time-esque with all fresh items like watermelon and ginger that they grind right there in front of you.  the drinks are just delicious, and with the half off that makes them $6 each, which is a great deal!  i just never seem to get there early enough to get more than one to take downstairs for the show.

I have been now 3 times, i suppose.  it's just so fun.  if you're here on tuesday, let's go!  let's laugh!  and be carefree for like 2 hrs on a tuesday night!  and then laugh some more.

picture of last Tuesday for you
