10th Floor Sample Sale

1 - SAMPLE SALE: As if it's not already hard enough working on 5th Ave (i know....WAHHHH) with GAP, Banana, JCrew, Anthro (literally, at the bottom of my office building), Express, Free People, Urban Outfitters, Kenneth Cole, Steve Madden, Michael Kors...the list goes on...these are all either on my block or the one over...always calling to me from their windows as I walk to grab lunch. As if that's not hard enough, there was a sample sale 4 floors up this week.  I saw the flyer in our shared kitchen for it, but didn't really pay attention.  I don't really "get" sample sales. For some reason, I don't think the items are legit or really the brand. [sorry, just spent 5 minutes looking up the real price for these Ellen Tracy bags...yeah, they were selling for way cheaper at the sample sale]

I hadn't paid attention to the flyer in the kitchen, but on Thursday morning, the boys in the office came in both with rolling suitcases, one at a cost of $15 and one HUGE MEGA duffle rolling suitcase for $20.  well, crap.  AND one guy had got a funny gift for another coworker's birthday that day to be funny....that story to come, but they were the nice Dearfoam slippers for only $5.  I mean, even at Kohl's on the day after Thanksgiving, you can't get those for the cheap!!!

The next question was....of course....

Cash or Credit??!!

I skipped down to get some cash after taking a trip up to the 10th floor to survey my findings.  The findings resulted in needing cold...hard....CASH.

I was able to do some early Christmas shopping.  The sale didn't have everything - mostly luggage, pajamas, robes, scarves, and slippers.  but mostly luggage and pajamas...random right?!  You know, I love a good deal, and I thought, well, who doesn't like slippers! (even though, I didn't actually buy any slippers)  I hope my mom/aunt/grandma like what I got them!

I was also so stoked because I was able to buy a couple of these scarves that I tell you, soon, you will see everyone WEARING!  the scarves that have a hoodie in/on them.  Yes, scored a couple of those for $5 each.  oh wow, there is a name for these scarf hoodies....www.schoodie.com  who KNEW?!  ugh. i can't find jut the right example online to show you.  so you'll have to imagine.

okay, this is for you...

See how great this knit is so thick, and it's a gorgeous gold color.  yes.  AND the little draw tie let's you make it tighter around your face as to keep the snow out of the hair.  are you with me?

Also, at the sample sale, I got this really great robe (originally marked for $188 retail, hello!) that was to be for me, but I got out and totally didn't realize I didn't pay attention to the size.   Well, it must be a S or XS because I tried it on and it looked like a dress with a slit all the way up to my crotch!  that won't work!  Will have to gift that.  I got my aunt this great beach tote, a top for my mom, 4 scarves and this pink plaid DKNY night shirt with pockets I am in love with!!! all for $40.

that was fantastic!  so not only was I having a super busy week at work, but I was having to sneak off to the 10th floor to peruse and then return again with money.  then of course, on Friday (the last day of the two-day sale) I had to go back up. I really wanted/needed a large suitcase.  Mine is rather old and has had a lot of use.  They had HUGE roller bags in brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Dockers, Jessica Simpson, etc. for $25.  I was too discouraged about carrying on the subway, so I left it behind. I thought, do I REALLY need this?!  though, I actually probably do, and when mine breaks it will be an issue, but until then, I should travel light anyways.

I went up to the sale on one occasion with my fellow receptionist (from the other side) , she is Puerto Rican and awesome!  She liked to show me things that I should buy.  She is cute.  She not only had got them to save out the stuff she wanted, but she also convinced them to let her take her stuff home and bring money the next day.  She did snag, among other things, this cute tshirt with a sequin scarf imprinted on it.  cute.

Oh the hazards of working in New York City.  Sample Sales in your office building.
