Co-worker Engagement Party - On Friday, Cranky Pants (aka bossman) hosted an engagement party for one of my coworkers - I shall call him Coify because he has long, luscious coifed hair that he likes to run his fingers through. Turns out, he is a very nice guy, about my age, and his fiancee is a teacher in the city with a gorgeous smile! CP threw the party in his apartment that overlooks Gramercy Park. I don't know if you know Gramercy Park, but it's private and you have to have keys to even access the park. The only people that have the keys are the neighbors that surround the block-wide park, so you know, people with enough money to afford their home in a prime area in the city and part of another block.
The party was very nice. The apartment wasn't HUGE, though it was big enough for a beautiful baby grand piano. Also, apparently, per his asst. they had to store some pieces of furniture elsewhere to make room.
It was cocktails and passed hours'devores for 2 hours. All the coworkers (and some wives) came out, along with lots of the bride and grooms family (62 ppl total). I guess CP threw the party b/c both of their families live outside the city and they thought it nice to be able to throw an engagement party so the friends in NYC could celebrate. Very nice I think.
It was the typical. I didn't speak to people other than my coworkers and their significant others.
there is a LOT of material there, but overall, turns out I like the girlfriend of Asberger's much more than anyone thought. She sort of has the mail-order-bride look to her and she doesn't work and she lives with him after they met a month prior - so all the tellings of a transaction instead of a real relationship. She is very pretty and he is well...NERD ALERT. Anywho, after seeing her at this 3rd word function and actually speaking to her, turns out I like her. I kinda thought I would. She is nice and harmless.
However, this other WIFE. so the wife that always calls and is asking me questions like "well, where is he? do you know when he will be back? is he on cell?" ...this is just too much. Usually, I give as much information as I have or know, "he is not available, he out at a meeting that should be over in an hour." Over the phone, she attempts to be nice, but sometimes she is just demanding and I become embarrassed for her and for him.
So Friday, I tell the guy, "oh i'm so excited I get to meet Ilana (yes her name is actually Ilana), don't let me leave here without introducing myself and saying hello"
She comes our way and I introduce myself. She begins very nice and is asking me about myself. Then I'm asking and talking about their 7-yr old whom we like to talk about at the office.
Then she says "Well, do you have kids, you don't do you?!"
I respond "No, I don't"
She says "Well, you know with kids, you actually have to get home to them, so we need to leave."
HAHAHAHA!!
I was so annoyed by this. Was this her rehearsed line to get herself out of conversations with people or to go home? YES.
sheesh, lady, no lines needed, just say "so great to meet you, thanks for all your help and for putting up with my nagging and annoyance, but we need to leave"
Trust me, I would not have asked questions or begged you to stay!!
it was a nice night overall. I probably could have worn a cute cocktail dress, but seeing as how everyone was coming straight from work, I didn't want to do too much and be the only one.
office accountant who works from home in long island came in for the event, so she wanted to do dinner afterwards. We went to this diner where I tried my hardest not to eat too much since I was running in the morning. Big Daddy's Diner - good stuff and good tater tots. hello!
